What a Full Wedding Gallery Really Looks Like | East Scotland Wedding Photographer

When you’re choosing a wedding photographer, chances are you have spent hours scrolling Instagram and google. Seeing beautiful golden-hour portraits, emotional ceremonies, and packed dance floors.

But here’s something most couples realise very quickly…

Social media only shows the highlights.

A full wedding gallery tells the real story of the day.

As a wedding photographer covering Angus, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Perthshire, I often get asked what a complete wedding collection actually includes. How many photos will there be? Will everything be captured, what if it rains?

In this post, I’m walking you through exactly what a full wedding gallery looks like for me so you know what to expect when you book your own Scottish wedding photography.

What Do I Mean by a “Full Wedding Gallery”?

A full wedding gallery is the complete collection of carefully edited images delivered after your day, not just the top 30 favourites.

Typically, this includes:

  • Preparations for both partners (if getting ready in the same venue)

  • Venue details and décor

  • The ceremony

  • Family and group Shots

  • Relaxed couple portraits

  • Speeches and reactions

  • Evening celebrations

  • All the in-between moments you didn’t even see happening

For most full-day weddings my couples usually receive a minimum of 500 images. This does depend on guest numbers, how the day flows, entertainment throughout the day, number of family shots, if we can go back out for Golden Hour. September/October & March/April this tends to happen around meal time, I always ask couples at the ‘8 weeks to go meeting’ if they are happy for me to grab them during the meal if the lighting is hitting the spot - 100% of my couples always say YES. ( & when I ask - you should say yes to!)

What matters most isn’t the exact number of images you receive — it’s that your gallery tells the whole story, naturally and beautifully.

Morning Preparations: Atmosphere & Anticipation

Your gallery often begins with the quiet excitement of the morning.

This part of the day includes:

  • bouquets and stationery (make sure to have a copy of your invitation with you)

  • nervous laughs with your bridal party

  • parents seeing you dressed for the first time

  • the calm before the storm as I call it

Preparations might happen in a country house, a Perthshire estate, a hotel in Dundee or at home each space has different light and energy, and I adapt to whatever the room gives me.

These photos set the scene for the rest of your story & they more often than not are the beginning of your physical Wedding album too.

The Ceremony: Emotion, Reactions & Setting

The ceremony is one of the most important parts of your gallery and it’s photographed quietly and respectfully, focusing on:

  • your entrance

  • your partner’s reaction

  • guests wiping away tears

  • wide shots of the space

  • hands being held

  • the confetti moment afterwards

Whether you’re saying your vows in the Ben Hogan Suite at Carnoustie, the Buddon Suite at Forbes of Kingennie, Auchmithie Beach or your back garden your gallery will show both the scale of the setting and the small, emotional moments that matter.

Couple Portraits: Relaxed, Natural & Unforced

One of the biggest worries couples share is “We’re not very comfortable in front of the camera.”

Most people feel that way and that is completely normal. To ease this feeling we can add an engagement/pre-wedding session onto your package, I like to do this around a year to your date and at your venue if possible, this gives you an idea of lighting at that time of year, we are in Scotland so can’t guarantee the weather but it gives you a rough idea including how your venue will look at that particular time of year. Harsh winter sun, Spring flowers, Hot summers sun, Gorgeous autumn colours.

Your full gallery will include a set of couple portraits that feel relaxed and true to you. I’ll gently guide you into flattering light, give simple prompts and keep things natural rather than stiff or awkward. I’m not a stand there & pose photographer, I like to keep it as natural as possible.

No matter your Wedding Venue, we will find the perfect spots. Tucked under big oak trees, along the beach or pond side.

Even if the weather changes (which, let’s be honest, it often does in Scotland), your gallery will still show beautiful, atmospheric images that reflect your day exactly as it unfolded. Have you thought about bridal shots in the rain? They certainly are not for everyone but when it rained the full day on our Summer 2025 wedding I knew we had to embrace it to get the outdoor photos I had always dreamt of.

Speeches & Reception: The Story Continues

You’ll see:

  • belly laughs

  • emotional hugs

  • clinking glasses

  • reactions from guests

  • children playing

  • table décor

  • candlelight and flowers

These are the moments that fly by on the day but become favourites when you look back later.

I focus on telling the story as it happens, rather than interrupting it, letting you relive not just what things looked like but how they felt.

Evening Celebrations: Energy & Atmosphere

As the sun sets and the lights go down, the tone changes and your gallery will capture that too.

Expect:

  • first dances

  • packed dance floors

Scottish evenings are full of character, whether it’s a ceilidh band or a DJ keeping the party going. This part of the gallery is all about movement, joy and atmosphere. I stay for 3 songs which I always find is enough to capture a bit of everyone, if you are having a Ceilidh starting a few songs in, I am more than happy to stay for an extra few songs as long as I know ahead of time.

What About Different Light & Weather?

A full wedding gallery shows consistency across everything:

  • bright summer sun

  • cloudy skies

  • rain showers

  • candlelit dinners

  • dark dance floors

  • winter afternoons

Living and working in Scotland means being prepared for every scenario. I use professional lighting when needed, scout sheltered portrait spots and lean into moody skies when they appear — because they often make photos even more special.

Editing Style: Timeless & True to Life

Every image you receive is carefully edited in my signature style, focusing on:

  • natural skin tones

  • balanced colour

  • clean, timeless finishes

  • a mix of colour and black & white

The aim is for your photos to look just as beautiful in 20 years as they do now. I keep colours true, bright bouquets won’t be toned down with filters in my images & likewise pastel colours will look pastel not super bright with a filter on them. The colours you have chosen for your day are the colours you will see in your gallery.

Why Looking at Full Galleries Matters

Scrolling through highlight images is inspiring but seeing a complete wedding day helps you understand:

  • how consistently moments are captured

  • how group photos are handled

  • what indoor photos look like

  • how your venue might appear in different light

  • how the whole story flows

When you book a photographer, you’re trusting them with one of the most important days of your life. A full gallery gives you confidence in exactly what you’ll receive. I am more than happy to share a fully gallery with you, at your venue if I have one before you decide on booking me to capture your day.
